New Delhi: Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh has suggested the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to remove the ‘Lotus’ from the logo used by Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) since it is also used by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in its symbol. The KVS had earlier changed the logo after its 79th meeting held on June 26 this year.
The old logo was being used by the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) since its inception.
The old logo has been replaced “with a globe showing children reaching out and a satellite in the sky”.
“The basic motive to change the logo was that, now we work at an international level and the old logo was being used by us from the last 40 years”, an official said.
The new logo has been designed by Sudhir Kumar, an art teacher at Delhi Cant’s KV no. 3.
KVs in Tehran, Moscow and Kathmandu have also been informed about the changed logo.
“We have retained the Sanskrit motto taken from the Upanishads and that is very much reflective of the Indian culture. The new logo was decided upon after several deliberations and keeping in mind the present spirit of education and the scientific temper and globalization of education besides the changed National Curriculum Framework (NCF) that has broadened horizons and also focused on computer education” said Dr. U.N. Singh, Joint Commissioner (Academics) - KVs

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackLotus is a symbol of knowledge in our culture. By removing it since a political party uses it, this issue has been politicized- since the Lotus symbol on Kendriya’s emblem would not have influenced any kendriya-parents politically. The argument that the upanishad quote is still intact is weak since pictures could deliver faster than words about our culture when represented on an emblem.
The logic to remove lotus from the existing emblem given by Arjun Singh is that “since it is also used by the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in its symbol”. By that logic, has he checked with the election commissioner that cross and cresent are not allotted as symbol to any candidate. This is backward thinking by the hon’ble minister. He has again shown his alegiance to foreign leader of his party by removing lotus and including cresent and cross in the emblem. Its a shame.
i am much dissapointed with our hon’ble HRD minister on his order to change the logo of KVS.I very much agree to what my friend surya has quoted above that taking away a symbol like a lotus, which is associated with Maa Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, just by giving a mere lame excuse of a party symbol is indeed very foolish. But I also take this opurtunity to congratulate Mr.Sudhir Kumar, who in no time came up with a new logo, which very well suits the currents trends taking place in the educational scene.
i am very dis appointed to see the new change in logo because earlier logo represents lotus flower and maa sarswati but we disturb it .
it’s very bad
this site is very useful
To show loyal to Mrs. Gandhi , This is done by the minister. Very Shame Mr. Minister
