The Central Government has initiated the process of establishment of 6 IIMs, 8 IITs and 12 Central Universities across the country including one in Uttarakhand by starting site selection for these institutes . The Human Resourse Development ( HRD ) Ministry has constituted various committees for accessing the site offerred by the state governments for the new institutes .
The central government has decided to set up new IIMs in the states of Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. “The site for IIM should be spread over about 200 acres of land while over 500 acres of land is required for each IIT and central University, Besides connectivity through air, rail and road is a mandatory requirement for each Institute”, a senior HRD minstry official said.
While the government has allocated Rs 2,725 crore in the 11th Plan for 12 new Central Universities , the allocation for new IITs and IIMs are Rs 2000 crore and Rs 600 crore respectively. Several commitees, headed by Thakur, have been constituted to examine the sites offered for IITs. The Committee will visit the sites offered by Rajasthan, Orissa, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for inspection.
In the recent development the central government has asked government of Uttarakhand to suggest suitable place & site for IIM and IIT in Uttarakhand , it is most likely that Haridwar may get IIM due to its better connectivity to Rail, Road and Air, While the Kumaon region may get IIT campus.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbackoff course, the iim and the iit should be given to dehradun
it is the most developed city of uttarakhand and that will maintain the standards of such higher institutions.
dehradun is known for the best schooling in the country and if it gets these prestegious institutions then it will become the educational hub of the country.
I do agree that dehradun is synonimous with top notch schools. IIT,IIM will add to the glory of Dehradun being an education centre. However,if the government can provide the land without disturbing the flora & fauna, I would call it a wise step.Or the campus should harness the narural beauty too.The standard of education in these institute is renowned worldwide, now the uniqueness of the exploring green campus can be an added attraction.
Hardwar has a sanctity as a religious place. Please, Please respect us and let it be that way!India is the only country with Hindus!Atleast let us live here!
It is very good that our state has got the chance of getting IIM & IIT. Its a very prestigous moment for us.
I think it should be developed in Gaushala, near by kashipur. so that the huge land of govt in this area can br used for the benefit of the people who are liivng there.
It will increase the standard of living , Income, also it is a very approachable place for the students who come from outside.
The Govt should try his level best to make that regeion Educational Hub of the State.
great view gauri. hindus should think about their religion. we have a great history. fully agreed with u r view. write some more.
thanks
It is great news but uttarakhand will get only IIM not IIT as IIT-roorke is already in Uttarakhand.
There is after all good news for Uttarakhand.
The IIM should be established at the Escorts Farm in Kashipur.
There is no need to acquire land for the IIM as 600 Acres land is already available with the Uttarakhand Govt.
There is no need to uproot the population or forests.
The location is at the centre of Garhwal, Kumaun & Tarai region.
It is well connected by rail and road. The Pant Nagar airport is just 50 K.M.
at last some relief for kashipur………….
This news give some relief to the people of kashipur because they are tolerating the ignorance of kashipur in front of rudrapur & haldwani.
soon kashipur is going to be declare as a district & the upcoming plan for IIM has added the sugar in the mouth.
ESCORTS FARM is a good place for the IIM
kashipur is well connected to national highways, railways as well as airport.
pantnagar airport is just 60kms from kashipur.
yet v have 2 wait & watch……..guys.
well good to know central govt. is interested in development of our small beautiful state more than the state govt.
and it doesn’t matter where the new iim comes, coz any how it will be a prestige to our state.
but since roorkee already has iit, and is closer to dheradun, which again has many prestigious colleges in engg. and medicine, so it would be good if the new iim comes in kashipur, haldwani, rudrapur, sitarganj or khatima.
so then it would be called an even development.
It will be the beginning of new era for the innovation of technical and management studies in the form of iit and iim in dehradun.
it is our luck that iim in kashipur.
kashipur is a historical city which is also truth of future because of iim .
iim can give trade mark for kashipur in not only india map but also in world map.
now kashipur feel strong and wealthy.
I think govt should declare College of technolgy, pantnagar as IIT as all acedamic + transport facility including airways is available in pantnagar only..
No need to debate on this, there is no such plan of opening a new IIT in uttrakhand. IIT Roorkee is already there. But yeah, IIM should be in dehradun. I have seen many of my friends getting frustated in Pantnagar due to its location.
it’s really a great news, specially IIM must be in dehradun. it has been a dream for the management field lover to get admission in IIM’s. finally it’s a great step taken by center govt. for the future of our area students.
we need good management institute & India need better planner for the progress of my loving country.
