About two lakh students of 44 deemed universities, which face the prospect of derecognition, were on Tuesday assured by the government that they would all get degrees.
The government, which accepted the findings of an expert committee on the functioning of deemed universities and submitted them to the Supreme Court yesterday, has left it to the court to take a decision on the issue.
“Not a single child, not a single student will be adversely affected. Students of that university will get a university degree,” HRD minister Kapil Sibal said addressing the Social Editors Conference here.
He was replying to a question as to what would happen to the future of students studying in 44 deemed universities that have been recommended for being stripped of the status by the expert committee.
Nearly two lakh students are pursuing higher studies in these 44 institutions in 13 states which have been recommended for non-continuation of the deemed status as neither on past performance nor on their promise for the future have the attributes to retain the deemed status.
“We are restructuring the higher education sector. Hopefully, the deemed university concept will go,” he said adding not not a single deemed university has been derecognised so far.
“The Government has accepted the findings of the expert committee and submitted its findings to the Supreme Court which will decide the course of action to be taken,” he said.

ITS NAME IS THAT 44 UNIVERSITY WHICH GET DERECOGNISED.
IS IT NOW RECOGNISED OR NOT?
It seems corruption is everywhere, even in educational system where deemed universities are permitted to continue!Every one knows that some universities have basic facilities like labs, workshops and internet connections.Students want degrees! they provide them !! Now government should consider only govt universities for govt posts! Let the MNCs and private organisations do as they like! The government should consider this issue seriously!
why don’t you people think about the students who are studying there…..???
even most of them wants to go for govt. jobs….
govt. of india should take the students those who have the right stuff and talent in them……..
here talent and sincerety plays the key role….
nothing to do with the universities and their names….
Students’ future is not the issue here. The government has promised them a fair deal. In the name of educational most of the deemed universities are looting people and harassing the staff. One popular deemed university in Bangalore which was approved on July 22nd on the eve of the no confidence motion being moved in the parliament in 2008 against the then Manmohan Govt is taking rules into its hand and many malpractices are being carried out without being questioned by any one.If such institutions are not controlled the future of our country will go to dogs
Even I have some unpleasant experiences with this Christian university which claims to be great with its missions etc.It is a den of fools with fake degrees and false propaganda
well thats pretty good that no students will be affected in this overall scenario. Just wanna ask the monitors of deemed universities that whether they open up a university just for having a good business? y don’t they think a lil bit good for the sake of the millions of peoples and lakhs of families associated with them?
